Wide Bay candidates talk border security and halting ‘brain drain’

Border Security

Border protection is paramount and our military and peace keeping personnel must be maintained at minimum levels. Appropriate support needs to be provided to military and peace keeping personnel both during service and in retirement to ensure they are given the acknowledgement, respect and assistance they deserve.

Defence procurement must ensure all equipment, machinery, products, vessels, vehicles and other items are designed and manufactured in Australia. National security must never be compromised by the opportunity to secure cheaper items overseas and decisions regarding Australia’s involvement in war must be considered by the Parliament of Australia.

Our defence personnel and their families need to be supported while serving and during post service to ensure they are respected and supported.  Gold cards should be available for all defence personnel who have experienced war like conditions – no ifs or buts and Veterans Affairs needs a complete overhaul.

Brain Drain

We need to look at send the entirety of Departments to regional areas and we need to look at all the demographics of the rural communities and possibly put the Mining Department where he mines are or put Heritage Department in Maryborough, put Tourism Department in the another location. Put agriculture where it is mostly needed, in the Wide Bay. Fisheries could go to another region and so on.

We should not be keeping them in the congested cities and kids and families have to continuously move to find work instead of living in the areas where they love and could thrive. With current technology there is no reason for these Departments to be in the Major Cities – it’s not as if we can just go in and make an appointment.

Glenn Lazarus Team believe job creation is of the utmost importance in regional areas. And it wouldn’t it be great if all call centres in Australia are located in all regional areas across Australia. Big business like Telstra, Optus, banks etc should all be required to hire Australians.  Australian Government tenders awarded to overseas companies should be brought back on to shore immediately to provide Australian jobs for Australian workers.
